Asus Zest touchscreen smartphone in the works

According to rumors, Asus is apparently planning to introduce its latest full-touchscreen smartphone, dubbed Zest aka Glaxy 7. The upcoming device is expected to compete against the likes of Apple iPhone and Samsung Omnia.

Apparently, powered by Windows Mobile 6, the Zest phone will include Asus’ custom Glide 1.5 interface, a 3.5-inch touchscreen that is capable to display 800×480 pixels, HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth, a 5-megapixel digital camera with autofocus sans Flash and is expected to be compatible with video formats MPEG-4 and H.264.

Moreover, the Zest smartphone also said to feature up to 4 GB of internal memory with a support for MicroSD card, a USB connection and GPS with a Blackberry-like trackball for navigation.

Looking at the leaked specs and design, the stylish smartphone can surely give a touch competition to the existing touchscreen models.

There has been no official announcement of the Asus Zest smartphone yet. However, the touchshcreen device is expected to debut by November 2008. Price is not yet clear.
