Finally, after months of waiting, the most anticipated car of 2011 has been launched. Maruti Suzuki has launched the new Maruti Suzuki Swift Hatchback in India with prices ranging from Rs. 4.22 lakh to Rs. 5.53 lakh for the petrol variant and between Rs. 5.17 lakh to Rs. 6.38 lakh for the diesel powered variant.
After our first glimpse of the longer and trendier version of the new Maruti Swift at the Paris Motor Show last year, it’s taken the Japanese car maker a while to bring this new version to India. The small car will sit in India’s upper B-segment of the Indian car market, taking on the likes of a long list of cars namely the Hyundai i20, the Ford Figo, the Chevrolet Beat, the Tata Indica Vista, the Honda Jazz, the Volkswagen Polo, the Skoda Fabia, the Maruti Ritz and the Nissan Micra.
Maruti Suzuki India Managing Director and CEO Shinzo Nakanishi who unveiled the new Swift said: “ We have launched the new Swift at a time when there was a significant demand for the outgoing model. I am confident that the new Swift will create new benchmarks with its improved fuel efficiency, stylish and sportier looks and high performance.”
Now, coming to the new Maruti Suzuki Swift, the car is built on an all new platform that is longer and larger than the older platform, thus resulting in a bigger car overall. Interiors of the new Swift have received an applause worthy upgrade with features that include a CD player, USB port connectivity, steering mounted controls and an in dash multi information display (MID), all of which presents itself with a far more upmarket feel.
The new Maruti Swift comes with improved fuel efficiency norms, the petrol variant will offer a decent mileage of 18.6 kmpl while the diesel variant will offer a whopping mileage of 22.9 kmpl. The new Maruti Swift petrol variant adorns a 1.2 liter K-series engine with VVT which delivers a torque of 114 Nm @ 4000 rpm and power of 87 ps @ 6000 rpm. The diesel variant on the other hand is powered with award winning 1.3 litre DDiS engine that delivers 190 Nm of torque @2000 rpm and 75 ps power @ 4000 rpm.
According to Mayank Pareek, managing executive officer, marketing and sales, the new variant is being manufactured at the company’s Manesar plant-A and B with a capacity of around 16,000 units to 18,000 units per month.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift LXi/LDi features,

Adding on to the above features, the VXi/VDi features,

The new Suzuki Swift comes with the K12 Suzuki K
series engine which is a 1200cc K series engine which is same as in the
existing generation of Maruti Swift. The transmission may or may not be changed
as well the existing cable shift transmission and gear ratios are working out
well in the existing generation.

The new Swift 2011 is taller than the existing Swift
by about 155mm. This is a good increase to new length of 3850 mm (compared to
existing length of 3696mm) which still helps to keep the New Swift in small car
category in terms of tax rules by keeping is less than 4 meter in length. This
increase in length will add to more space inside swift and make it more
appealing car to buy.
The width has also been increased from 1690mm to
1695mm which is not a considerable change. The height of the new Swift is
1510mm compared to 1530 mm of the existing swift which is slightly lesser in
height. The wheelbase has been increased to 2430 mm compared to 2390 mm which
will add to a better handling & performance.
The new tail light design extending to the sides and a
much more attractive rear makes the visual appeal of the New swift much better.
The clear crystal lamps at both front and rear makes it a beautiful looking
car.

The interiors of the new style steering with improved
central console, Integrated audio system, better interior space owing to the
increased length of the car. The car will have better leg space for rear
passengers. The quality of the plastic is also expected to become better to
compete with rival cars of the same segment. The new seat fabric and door trims
will give New Swift a new and more classy look compared to the existing swift.
All in all, the new Swift looks an even better package and will pose more competition to the cars like Hyundai i20 & other compact hatchbacks like Chevrolet Aveo UVA, Nissan Micra and Volkswagen Polo.
Price Of New Maruti Swift Vs Existing Swift
The price of the New Maruti Swift has not been declared in India. The launch is expected near January 2011. The price of the new Maruti Suzuki Swift is expected to be slightly higher than the the existing swift. The prices may start near Rs. 5 Lakhs and onwards.
