Renault India unveiled their compact sports utility vehicle 'Duster' at the Auto Expo 2012 in New Delhi. The company has launched it today (4th July, 2012) with a starting price of Rs. 7.19 lakhs (ex-showroom New Delhi). It will compete with the likes of upcoming Ford EcoSport, Premier Rio, Mahindra Scorpio, Tata Safari and Maruti XA Alpha in near future. Duster is fourth product by Renault India after Fluence, Koleos and recently launched Pulse. It is available in both diesel and petrol. Renault India has managed to price the base-model of Duster around 7-lakh rupees, now it is for sure that it will sell in good numbers because it is presently the one and only SUV in its class, also the best looking and most feature rich compact sports utility vehicle in its class.
Despite being compact, the dimensions of Duster pose a challenge to
any terrain contrary to the trend that SUVs are meant to be bulky. Built
on Nissan B0 platform, Duster will have an overall length of 4.31
meters, just shorter than its big brother Renault Koleos, and a width of
1.82 meters. Considering its size and high ground clearance of 205 mm,
Renault Duster is fit for city as well as the off roading and has the
nature of a true 4x4 SUV.

Renault Duster Interior
The interiors of Renault Duster are much inspired by Renault Logan. Though it is an SUV, it can seat only 5 passengers. All black-theme in the interiors take away the luxury quotient but renders a sporty look. The 3 spoke steering, which bears Renault’s logo, is electrically powered but can be a bit too heavy on turns. The dash is quite curvy and looks sporty. The AC vents on shiny brown central console and either sides of dashboard can be closed completely. The rear seat passengers can have individual AC vents outlined with shiny brown color for their comfort. The instrument console has large dials akin to SUV and is illuminated in red. A lot of interior equipments looks like borrowed from Logan. The same semi hooded instrument cluster cover with its chrome polished dials with a digital display in the center all comes from Logan. RxE Variant:
Nevertheless, the basic fundamentals remain unchanged and for those who would like to go with the base RxE variant, here’s what you should be informed of. For starters the RxE takes the backseat on overall safety and is forlorn of equipment the likes of ABS, EBD, Brake Assist and Airbags. Basic security features like an Engine immobilizer and a Central Locking system are available, but then again hacking off the rear de-fogger, rear wiper & washer, front fog lamps and even a reverse parking sensor means that the RxE would severely impair a driver’s on road visibility especially during the monsoon season.

RxL Variant:

The first is a revolutionary rear HVAC unit that can be controlled independently by passengers seated behind, and the second, Chrome Satin finishes for everything that meets the eye on this vehicle, starting from the body coloured ORMs’, the roof rails to the door side sills. Even the gear knob is wrapped in leather with touches of chrome making it the most visually appealing of the lot.

The penultimate price for the Renault Duster lies with the Optional Leather Pack available only to RxZ 110PS dcI model customers, a whopping Rs 11.29 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). This is the supreme king of all the eight variants available with the Renault Duster.
While few looking to invest in a budget SUV would fervently pick this model, the Duster’s genuine off the tarmac abilities, interior comfort and international branding should attract a lot of customers, who in the Duster’s absence would in all probabilities have shelled out far more for a far lesser equipped SUV that chooses to masquerade itself in a so called higher segment.
