Ford Figo Car

The Ford Figo is a large hatchback that is based on the outgoing European Fiesta platform. Ford has worked hard to make the Figo extremely price competitive and in doing so, they have managed to place it rather strategically in the large hatchback segment. Design and style are typical Ford, with enough borrowed from both the Fiesta and the Fusion. Available with either a petrol or diesel engine, the Figo is the first hatchback from Ford India and its entry will always mark the company's entry into the most competitive segment in the Indian market.

Ford unveiled its new small car 'Figo' in September, 2009 to compete with the likes of Maruti Ritz, Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz & Skoda Fabia. The company has managed to sell it it very good numbers and Figo is now one of the best selling cars in India. From the front it is typical ford design - like we have seen in Ford Fiesta and Ikon in India - A big front air dam below the grille which gives Figo a very distinct & aggressive look. At the rear Figo it resembles "Fusion" a lot with high mounted vertical tail lamps in D-pillar. All in all Figo looks very muscular and much better that Honda Jazz, Skoda Fabia and Maruti Ritz. But Hyundai i20 still leads the B+ hatchback segment due to its awesome styling, three engine options, spacious interiors and loads of features to play with which makes it a value for money deal. Let's see if Ford India manages to replace the segment leader with all new Figo.

  Exterior Appearance

Ford Figo has joined the race of automobile giants to become the no. 1 in the Indian auto market. The competition between the car makers has just become tougher since Ford Figo not only is reasonably priced but is appealing too.

Among everything else, the competition to woo customers, starts from the exterior look of the car and no company leaves any stone unturned to create a look that is unmatched by others. Ford Figo about which we are discussing here, is one of the best creations Ford designers have come up with so far. A completely new look with a unique front, side and rear design is the USP of Ford Figo. These elements become the deciding factors that  grab most out of the small car segment in India. So, here we present you the exterior appearance of the hatchback with the help of words along with respective pictures.

I thought it was fairly common knowledge that if you have to explain why something is cool, then it isn’t. If you have to label it as cool, then it isn’t. Top Gear have taught us this; if you would have to explain to Kristin Scott Thomas why a car is cool, then you’ve already failed. So now we have Ford, with a car that doesn’t actually look that bad for what it is, and yet they’ve called it the Figo, a word that comes from an Italian colloquial term that apparently translates to ‘cool‘ in English. Do they not watch Top Gear?

The Ford Figo does however have a good chance of proving me wrong by selling well in South Africa, and with two decent engine options and an established platform there’s no reason it shouldn’t do well. Both the engine options are 1.4L motors, but naturally Ford had to cater for both proper petrol and that other fuel. The 1.4L Duratec petrol and 1.4L Turbo Diesel Duratorq motors will both use a five speed manual gearbox, which interestingly implies a lack of automatic as an option, I’m not complaining in any way, just pointing it out.

The Figo seems to be relatively well equipped for a car of this segment. MP3/iPod connectivity is in there, a South African necessity is the PATS (Passive Anti Theft System) as well, and then of course the usual safety features like dual front airbags and ABS. So if Ford can match the Figo with an aggressive pricing structure and try as much as possible to keep all the nice equipment standard as opposed to pricey optional extra’s, well Ford could have a strong seller on their hands. Especially when considering the Figo come with a fully comprehensive 4 year/120 000km warranty as well as a 5 year corrosion warranty.

Ford Figo is the best looking small car whether it comes to exterior or interior. The Figo is provided with top of its class features which were not seen in compact cars in India so far. The cabin of the car is equipped with enticing fabric, equipment and seating arrangement. The driver seat is adjustable and comfy. The dashboard of Ford Figo is packed with advanced stereo and instrument panel. The rounded AC vents are placed, facing the driver and the front passenger. Passengers at the rear needn't worry as there are two vents facing the rear seat row as well.
